Example Literary Article: The Giver by Lois griffin Lowry

Case Introduction Passage: " The actual voyage of discovery is made up not in seeking fresh landscapes, however in having new eyes. ” This quote by Marcel Proust speaks of discovering what‟s right in front of you by seeing this differently, with " new eyes. ” The main character, Jonas, in Lois Lowry‟s The Giver goes through an identical experience if he discovers his " Capacity to See Further than. ” Jonas begins to find his Community differently, with an awareness or mindfulness that most people in the neighborhood have weren't getting. Mindfulness, in fact , is among central styles in The Giver. Although the book begins with what seems to be an ideal place, as it happens that the people in the Community live shallow and superficial lives. As Jonas begins his work as the Receiver of Memories, this individual gains perception and through that intelligence, learns that in guarding the Community through the memories, their particular lives include lacked sense and understanding. In the end, Jonas learns to value his new way of seeing and chooses to risk everything to restore mindfulness and perception to everybody in the Community.

Case Body Paragraph for 1st Argument (Main Point #1): The people in Jonas‟s Community share their very own feelings with family members in their dwellings each evening. Yet , the feelings that they share are simply just surface emotions shared simply by mindless people numbly going about their day, shallow and superficial. For instance , when Lily expressed anger over the episode at the park with the boy from one other community whom did not the actual rules, it was not genuinely anger. Rather, Jonas recognized, she experienced " outright anger and exasperation” (pages 131-132), and her feelings were relieved quickly after sharing them with her family.
